Trailblazers: Molly Gebrian, viola & Danny Holt, piano

Performed by two thoughtful and highly accomplished artists, this program shines a spotlight on music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Henriëtte Bosmans, Ethel Smyth, and Dora Pejačević – women who were unabashedly themselves, defying the social expectations of their time against the backdrop of a global pandemic and a world war.

Dr. Molly Gebrian is a violist and scholar with a background in cognitive neuroscience. She will join the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music this Fall. Called “phenomenal” by music critic Alan Rich and hailed as one of the “local heroes” of the Los Angeles music scene (LAcitybeat.com), pianist Danny Holt performs around the globe in concert halls (Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl) as well as clubs and art galleries. He has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Blue Man Group, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, and the Calder Quartet.

They come together to perform these new arrangements of sumptuous works, originally written for cello and piano, arranged by Molly Gebrian, marking a significant contribution to the viola repertoire. The works are featured on Danny and Molly’s new album, Trailblazers, from Acis Productions.
