Midday Music Lunchtime Concert Series: Trio Lasell

  • Bay Chamber 5 Mountain Street Camden, ME, 04843 United States (map)

Performers‍ ‍

PHILIPP ELSSNER, violin

NORA WILLAUER, cello

MARLENE MCCARTHY, piano

Trio Lasell brings together violinist Philipp Elssner, cellist Nora Willauer, and pianist Marlene McCarthy in a program exploring music written in the shadow of the First World War. Ravel, Lili Boulanger, Vaughan Williams, Granados, and Kreisler each encountered a Europe being transformed by conflict; their music offers strikingly different responses to a world in upheaval. Rather than treating history as background, the trio will weave brief spoken reflections through the performance, illuminating the circumstances in which these works were created and the personal worlds of the composers who wrote them. Folk song, memory, beauty, grief, and resilience become threads connecting music from several countries at a moment when borders—and lives—were being profoundly altered.

Coffee and cookies served before the concert.
