Named after a 1977 play by the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard, this internationally acclaimed, Vienna-based ensemble was founded in 2003 and has steadily won admiration as one of the world’s leading string quartets. With performances in prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the Vienna Musikverein, they have been praised for their technical brilliance, interpretive depth, and unique artistic voice. Their Bay Chamber debut program features masterworks by Haydn and Brahms.
Haydn’s Quinten Quartet, named for its bold use of descending fifths, is a work of striking originality. From its dramatic opening to the lively finale, Haydn’s inventive interplay of themes and vibrant energy captivate and surprise. The work showcases Haydn’s genius at the height of his career, blending elegance with experimentation.
