Screen Door Festival 2026 comes to a close with a program shaped by the artists, friendships, and musical encounters of a remarkable week in Camden.
Joining the Festival for this final concert is the incomparable Jasmine Rice LaBeija - Juilliard-trained opera singer, acclaimed drag artist, and International Godmother of the Royal House of LaBeija. With pianist David Kaplan, Jasmine opens the evening with songs of love, longing, remembered places, and return, bringing her singular combination of vocal artistry, theatrical presence, and wit to Hammer Hall.
The evening travels freely across musical worlds. Blake Pouliot and Janice Carissa bring romance and exuberance to selections from Korngold’s suite from Much Ado About Nothing; the Balourdet Quartet turns to the imaginative music of American composer Paul Novak; and festival musicians join James Austin Smith for the luminous simplicity of Ennio Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe.
At the heart of the Finale, South African vocalist Vuyo Sotashe and pianist and composer Chris Pattishall reunite with Palaver Strings for a sequence of songs rooted in South African musical traditions and transformed through Pattishall’s arrangements. Voices, memories, and musical histories meet in this unique collaboration – this is music shaped by the encounter between these artists and by the places and traditions each brings with them.
After five days of rehearsing together, listening to one another, sharing meals, exchanging ideas, and making music, the festival ends with a celebration of what can happen when remarkable artists share the same place and time. Looking beyond familiar horizons, HOME becomes something we carry with us, something we create together, and something we dare to imagine.
